The best way to start is to sell...

You can spend a lot of time creating business plans and logos and web sites. Figuring out sales channels and strategic planning. All of this is important, eventually. None of these things move you forward in creating your businesses if you don't have sales.

When building something new you need to determine what you have and where you want to go in the highest overview first. Then make a quick startup plan, sample products or pitch deck and go sell it.

When you go sell, don't go in with the attitude that you have all the answers. Find people to pick apart your idea. Find someone to give you everything wrong with what you are doing. You want every possible hole pointed out to you. Then you fix them and bring your product to the next person and so on...and then you are going to find the deal.

Find the deal and you will find the money.

I heard this said quite a while ago and it took a long time to sink in. If you have something worth purchasing or investing in, you will find the money. But first, you need the thing and then you need to get in front of the right people.

What do you need to start?

It depends a lot on what you are selling but at a minimum, you need a way to show your product. If you are looking for investors you will need a pitch deck or business plan. How thorough and how fancy will depend on the stage of you business and how much you are looking to raise. If you are looking for funding for an investment property you might just need one page to cover the relevant info.

Find the right people.

This is your most basic marketing. Who are you selling this product to? Who would have an interest in funding a project like this? Start with your network and when you have something worth going to bigger fish you can cast a bigger net.
